The public has until 12:00 (CEST) on Wednesday (9 September) to vote for the athlete they want to be the Allianz Athlete of the Month for August 2015.

Five para-athletes have been shortlisted for the Allianz Athlete of the Month poll for August 2015, and the public are now invited to vote for their winner via the IPC's homepage paralympic.org.

    The nominations are:

    David Drahoninsky, Czech Republic, archery

The 2008 Paralympic champion added his first world title in Donaueschingen, Germany, shooting a match-play world record (144) in the men’s W1 competition in the process.

    Omara Durand, Cuba, athletics

Durand became the fastest female para-athlete after running a world record 11.65 seconds in the 100m T12 race at the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games. She also broke the 200m world record twice in Toronto, leaving with three golds (including the 400m).

    Trevor Hirschfield, Canada, wheelchair rugby

Hirschfield was an integral part of Canada's 57-54 gold-medal win over the USA at Toronto 2015. The class 1.0 player finished second in scoring for Canada during the finals with seven goals, while often guarding higher-class opponents.

    Team Italy, cycling

The trio of Luca Mazzone (H2), Vittorio Podesta (H3) and Alex Zanardi (H5) collected three gold medals apiece – the maximum possible – at the UCI Road Para-Cycling World Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland.

    Aurelie Rivard, Canada, swimming

The 19-year-old was the most decorated female swimmer at Toronto 2015, winning six golds and one silver, and broke the women’s 100m freestyle S10 world record.

The public has until 12:00 (CEST) on Wednesday (9 September) to vote for the athlete they want to be the Allianz Athlete of the Month for August 2015 via the IPC's homepage.

The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) and International Federations (IFs).

The 2015 winners so far are:

January – Andrew Soule, USA, Nordic skiing

February – Chris Vos, the Netherlands, snowboard

March – Maksym Nikolenko, Ukraine, table tennis

April – Nigel Murray, Great Britain, boccia

May – Martina Caironi, Italy, athletics

June – Eduard Ramonov, Russia, football 7-a-side

July – Siamand Rahman, Iran, powerlifting
