Prior to Rio 2016, Rahman's mark stood at 296kg and he was determined to reach 300kg. He did not disappoint, clearing the bar at 305kg for the gold medal. He then followed that up with a final world-record lift of 310kg, the equivalent of two baby elephants or a Siberian tiger.
Rahman received 64 per cent of the public votes. Colombian swimmer Carlos Serrano was second with Belarusian swimmer Ihar Boki third. Also nominated were Swiss wheelchair racer Marcel Hug, Belgian table tennis player Laurens Devos and Australian wheelchair tennis player Dylan Alcott.
