“I think we are all aware that the greatest resource the Paralympic Movement possesses is the incredible human energy contained within each of our athletes and volunteers.
The Agitos Foundation is making hundreds of thousands of Euros available to enable member organisations to develop para-sports, through a new Grant Support Programme.
The aim of the scheme is to help organisations to train Technical Officials, classifiers and coaches as well as to support them with competitions, developing low cost sports equipment and classification research.
Members can apply for a grant via an application process that concludes on 15 August, 2013.
The 650,000 Euros, which has been made possible through the new partnership agreement between the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and International Olympic Committee (IOC), is for 2013. Annual funds will also be made available through similar schemes until 2016.
IPC President Sir Phillip Craven said:
“I think we are all aware that the greatest resource the Paralympic Movement possesses is the incredible human energy contained within each of our athletes and volunteers. The key objective of the Grant Support Programme is to provide additional skills to these individuals who will ensure an active, positive and continuing development of new athletes as we move towards the Paralympic Games in Russia (2014), in Brazil (2016) and in Korea (2018).”
The call for applications is divided into two parts. One is for National Paralympic Committees and Regional Organisations and the other for International Federations and International Organisations of Sports for the Disabled.
The Agitos Foundation was launched at the London 2012 Paralympic Games to implement the majority of development initiatives for the IPC across the world.
Since then, a wide variety of activities and events have been held for athletes and officials to support them with their para-sport programmes, with the grant scheme being the latest in a series covering development, advocacy, inclusion, awareness, education and knowledge and research.
