3 Year Review - Agitos Foundation

Since 2012 the Agitos Foundation has become the leading global organisation for developing Para sport as a tool for changing lives and contributing to an inclusive society for all.

We are the development arm of International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and take our name from the Paralympic Symbol (the Agitos) which is derived from the Latin verb “to move”.

We work on a global basis to attract funding – philanthropic donations and grants – as well as a wide range of non-financial strategic support. Our key focus is to distribute these resources and expertise to the parts of the world where they are most needed.

We do this by designing and delivering a number of core programmes that address common worldwide issues. This includes making grants available to the IPC membership.

The considerable demands from within the Paralympic Movement mean that at this stage we are unfortunately not able to provide grants to organisations or individuals from the wider network that supports people with impairment.

We operate a rigorous monitoring and evaluation process for all our grant making and programme delivery.

As a foundation, we also want to be an even more effective advocate of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The power of sport is the specific tool that we have for this.

We are convinced that Para athletes make a huge difference to the perceptions of ability.

Para sport is all too often expensive, unavailable or not well-promoted, especially in developing nations.
