People with impairments already face a wide range of personal challenges, and so the Agitos Foundation is determined to try and present them with a sporting environment that eradicates – or at least minimises – as many of the barriers to participation as possible.
Some athletes will reach the Paralympics as a result of our efforts, but for many others it is simply about adopting an active lifestyle and taking a confident attitude into other aspects of their lives.
The aspiration of the International Paralympic Committee is is ‘to make for a more inclusive society for people with an impairment through Para sport’ and we have been tasked with helping to reach that goal.
We have four priority themes (PARA):
• Pathways – Providing sustainable pathways into grassroots and competitive Para sport
• Awareness – Using the power of sport to help the world to understand impairment and embrace inclusion.
• Representation – Encouraging worldwide representation amongst competing athletes and greater diversity within our Movement.
• Ambassadors – Empowering athletes to maximise their talent, living the Paralympic values in a way that inspires the next generation.
We also operate several core programmes in order to enable these themes and our work in general.
