11 Paralympians up for ESPYs

The public voting period opened on Thursday (27 June) for the ESPYs, and all 10 nominees for the Best Female Athlete with a Disability and Best Male Athlete with a Disability awards this year are Paralympians, as is British table tennis player David Wetherill in the Best Play category.
The ESPYs, short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award, are the biggest sports awards show in the US, put on annually by American sports network ESPN.

Voting ends on 17 July at 21:00 (EST). The awards show will be hosted by actor and director Jon Hamm this year that same evening.
Best Male Athlete with a Disability:
-Jeremy Campbell (athletics): Campbell won gold in the discus F44 at London 2012, and he also made history in April 2012 when he became the first para-athlete to throw over 60m.
-Jeff Fabry (archery): After shattering his bow in the men’s compound W1 semi-finals at London 2012, he became the first American archer to win a Paralympic gold since 1984.
-Raymond Martin (athletics): In front of 80,000 fans, Martin won four Paralympic golds in London at the age of 18. He won the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m T52 events.
-Bradley Snyder (swimming): Exactly one year to the day after losing his eyesight serving his country in Afghanistan, Snyder swam to his first Paralympic gold in London. He left the Paralympics with 100m and 400m freestyle golds, as well as a 50m freestyle silver.
-Tyler Walker (alpine skiing): Walker won the men’s sitting speed event trophy at the 2013 IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup.
Best Female Athlete with a Disability:
-Tatyana McFadden (athletics): In addition to winning three golds and a bronze in the T54 wheelchair racing class at London 2012, McFadden won the Boston Marathon just hours before the explosion. And then just six days later, on her birthday, she won the London Marathon.
-Muffy Davis (cycling): Davis won three cycling gold medals at London 2012, including individual titles in the women’s time trial H1 and road race H1-3.
-Jessica Long (swimming): Long won eight medals in the pool at London 2012, including five golds, two silvers and a bronze. She also set two new world records along the way.
-Victoria Arlen (swimming): The arch rival of Great Britain’s Ellie Simmonds left London 2012 with four medals, including a gold and three silvers, setting one world record in the process.
-Shirley Reilly (athletics): Reilly captured gold in the women’s marathon at London 2012 with a top time of 1:46:33.
Best Play
-David Wetherill (table tennis): The British star’s wonder shot that went viral on YouTube during London 2012 racked up more than 6.3 million views.
