Five Para athletes have been shortlisted for the Allianz Athlete of the Month poll for January 2017, and the public are now invited to vote for their winner via www.paralympic.org.

    The nominations are:

    Gustavo Fernandez, Argentina

The men´s singles world No.4 won the Australian Open, the second wheelchair tennis Grand Slam title of his career. He also finished as runner-up in the doubles in pairs with Great Britain´s Alfie Hewett.

    Jeroen Kampschreur, Netherlands

With three world titles from his first World Para Alpine Skiing Championships in Tarvisio, Italy, the 17-year-old proved there is a new skier to watch in the men’s sitting.

    Oleksandra Kononova, Ukraine

She swept all her cross-country and biathlon races in the women´s standing at the World Cup on home soil in Western Center, winning six golds and confirming she will be the one-to-beat at the upcoming World Championships in Finsterau, Germany.

    Andrea Rothfuss, Germany

The woman who has finished second to France’s multiple world champion Marie Bochet at the last two Worlds finally reached the top of the podium in Tarvisio, taking victory ahead of the Frenchwoman in the giant slalom. Rothfuss followed that up with a second gold in the slalom. On both occasions the German had to overcome Bochet’s lead, continuing the great rivalry for the road to the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

    Jessica Stretton, Great Britain

The Rio 2016 archery champion broke the world record in the women´s WI Open Compound Event at the Second Fazza International Para Archery Championship Dubai 2017, with a combined total of 656.
