Changes made to Para snowboard schedule

US snowboarder Mike Minor started off the 2016-17 season with a victory in banked slalom on the indoor slopes of SnowWorld Landgraaf, the Netherlands.

The 26-year-old men’s banked slalom SB-UL World Cup champion finished ahead of Austrian world champion Patrick Mayrhofer.

While training for the Big White 2017 World Para Snowboard Championships that will take place in Canada between 1-8 February, Minor disclosed the three things he enjoys the most when he is not on the slopes.

Spending time with his fiancé and dogs

“With traveling so much, whenever I’m home I enjoy being around some of my biggest supporters [including his girlfriend Candra and his two dogs], just relaxing around the house watching movies.”

    Skateboarding

“When it’s the season for it or I can get into the Barn at Woodward Copper [Colorado, USA], I enjoy spending as much time on my skateboard as I can. I have spent just as much time on a skateboard as I have on a snowboard, I think without it I wouldn’t be the rider I am today”.

    Snowboard

“Whenever I get done snowboarding on the slopes, I go and do more snowboarding, weather it be on a pump track in my yard or hitting urban features in the streets with my friends. Snowboarding is my life.”

Around 80 Para athletes from 25 countries will travel to Big White for the 2017 World Para Snowboard Championships to compete in both snowboard-cross and banked slalom events in men’s and women’s SB-UL, SB-LL1 and SB-LL2 classifications.
