Changes made to Para snowboard schedule
10.01.2017Weather conditions have resulted in the postponement of a Europa Cup and changes to World Cups.
World Para Snowboard has confirmed changes to three competitions set to take place in January, including the World Cup programme, as a result of weather conditions.
The revised calendar can be viewed online.
The World Cup in La Molina, Spain, initially scheduled to begin on 16 January, will now get underway on 14 February. Athletes and teams will arrive on 12 February, with training on 13 February.
Two snowboard-cross World Cup races will take place on 14-15 February, followed by training and two banked slalom editions on 17-18 February.
The Europa Cup scheduled for Les Angles, France, from 13 January has been postponed. New dates will be announced shortly.
Finally, two snowboard-cross races in Sierra at Tahoe, USA, have been upgraded from NorAm Cups to World Cups on 26 and 27 January. This offers athletes the chance to compete at the higher level ahead of the 2017 World Para Snowboard Championships which open in Big White, Canada, on 1 February.
A NorAm Cup race in snowboard-cross will take place on 25 January.
Dimitrije Lazarovski, Head of World Para Snow Sports, said: “The weather conditions in Europe have unfortunately meant we have had to make some changes to the schedule for this season, but I am grateful to all organisers for their cooperation in finding a solution.
“We have, for example, been able to replace the last World Cup races ahead of Big White 2017 in La Molina with competitions in Sierra at Tahoe.
“I am confident that we have some excellent racing ahead of the World Championships, and the World Cup can be followed with live results at worldparasnowboard.com.”
The Big White 2017 World Para Snowboard Championships will feature around 80 of the world’s best Para snowboarders from 25 countries between 1-8 February.
Media accreditation is open at the Big White 2017 website.
