"We showed everybody what can be done with the power of will, stubbornness, dedication, perseverance and support despite of disability.”

The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Slovenia has announced a new partnership with Lidl Slovenia in an effort to raise awareness about para-sport and prepare for September’s Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

The announcement was made on Thursday (25 February) at a special brunch gathering.

NPC Slovenia President Damijan Lazar said that athletes with impairments are proud to present their vision to their sponsors and together with them they will look forward to numerous successes.

Chief Executive Officer of Lidl Slovenia, part of one of Europe’s biggest retail chains, Gregor Kosi said: “As part of the sustainable concept of creating a better world, we conducted numerous activities in the field of social responsibility and together with a number of organisations, we are building a foundation for a better and brighter tomorrow.

“Connection with an organisation such as NPC Slovenia was a natural partnership. Mainly due to the exceptional and inspirational individuals who despite apparent obstacles push the boundaries of sport. This is the inspiration by which they can easily be identified and we believe that this new partnership can help to continue their amazing achievements.”

It comes right before the Slovenian women’s sitting volleyball team compete in the 2016 World ParaVolley Intercontinental on 17 March in China, where Slovenia is among 15 teams looking to qualify for Rio 2016.

Paralympians Lena Gabrscek, Darko Duric, Alen Kobilica and Primoz Jeralic were among those present for the announcement.

“We must be aware that each of us disabled athletes has been through a difficult period, a period of accepting yourself in a different light,” Jeralic said. “This is what makes us special, this is what gives inspiration. We showed everybody what can be done with the power of will, stubbornness, dedication, perseverance and support despite of disability.”
