“Sochi 2014 is set to break Winter Games viewing records in Australia, Japan, Great Britain, Canada and the USA, and the IPC’s livestream will allow those who do not have the Games broadcast in their home countries to tune in.”

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) released a one-minute video trailer for its Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games livestream coverage on Monday (17 February), which showcases the thrills and spills of winter para-sport, aiming to engage fans around the world in the year’s biggest para-sport event.

The Sochi 2014 trailer can be watched here.

The IPC will show more than 300 hours of uninterrupted live coverage from Sochi from 7-16 March across five HD channels on www.Paralympic.org.

All five sports will be covered – alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, ice sledge hockey and wheelchair curling – with snowboard to be a discipline under the alpine skiing umbrella. The action will be featured with English commentary, and both the Opening and Closing Ceremony will be covered live, too.

Following each competition day, all of the action will be made available as video on demand on the IPC’s YouTube Channel, ParlaympicSport.TV, with ice sledge hockey and wheelchair curling matches to be viewable in full. Highlights packages from each sport will also be made available.

Craig Spence, IPC Communications and Media Director, said: “With our most comprehensive coverage of a Paralympic Winter Games ever, sports fans around the world will be able to follow every match and race from Sochi, with many having the opportunity to watch winter para-sport for the first time.

“Sochi 2014 is set to break Winter Games viewing records in Australia, Japan, Great Britain, Canada and the USA, and the IPC’s livestream will allow those who do not have the Games broadcast in their home countries to tune in.”

Supporting the live and on-demand video streams will be live results, with a team of IPC writers producing daily in-depth previews and reviews of all five sports, together with feature interviews with leading athletes.

During the Games the IPC website will feature up-to-date biographies of every single athlete competing at Sochi 2014 and a team of photographers will also provide thousands of images.

Sochi 2014 will be the biggest Paralympic Winter Games to date, with nearly 600 athletes from 44 countries expect to compete for 72 sets of medals.
