    Swiss athletes honoured for their achievements

    The 12 athletes, who have excelled during 2014, were honoured during a special ceremony held by the Swiss Paralympic Committee.

    Christoph Kunz won Switzerland’s only gold medal at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Russia, taking the men’s giant slalom sitting.

    Switzerland’s most successful athletes of 2014 have been honoured for their achievements by Rene Will, President of the Board of Trustees and Veronika Roos, Secretary General of the Swiss Paralympic Committee, at a special ceremony on 24 October.

    Twelve athletes, including Paralympic, world and European Champions, were commemorated at the ceremony held in the Hotel Schweizerhof in Bern, Switzerland.

    Christoph Kunz won Switzerland’s only gold medal at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Russia, taking the men’s giant slalom sitting.

    He was joined by athletics star Manuela Schar, after she won four gold medals at the 2014 IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea, Great Britain, and Marcel Hug, with three golds at the same competition.

    Also honoured were Heinz Frei, Jean-Marc Berset and Tobias Frankhauser (cycling), and Beat Bosch, Bojan Mitic, Philipp Handler, Patricia Keller, Patrick Stoll (athletics).

    Youngster Alexandra Helbling (athletics) was also named Swiss Paralympic newcomer of the year after her bronze medal in the women’s 800m T54 at Swansea 2014.
