NPC Sierra Leone develop strategic plan

Those involved in para-sport in Sierra Leone have refused to let the outbreak of Ebola stop them from pushing forward with their plans to develop, gathering in the capital Freetown for a workshop at the end of November.
They were bought together by Unisa Deen Kargbo who is the programme lead for the Agitos Foundation’s Organisational Capacity Programme (OCP).
The OCP aims to strengthen National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) in the areas of governance, management, leadership and sport promotion, supporting them to improve their overall capacity to develop and support para-athletes in reaching their full potential.
The group of nine, which included people from the NPC, athletes and administrators, used the time to pen a strategic plan.
They were also given presentations on the Paralympic brand and Games and the best ways to organise themselves with the resources they have.
The collective have already considered the next steps in taking the NPC to greater heights through the OCP.
“I am going to have a one day interactive session to present the draft strategic plan and a budget to support the activities on it,” Kargbo said. “I have also informed that come next year when Ebola shall have been a thing of the past we shall introduce Paralympic Day to raise awareness on disabled sports.”
Kargbo also reported that the Sport Ministry have restated their commitment to para-sport in Sierra Leone, after the NPC were drafted in to a national programme to help the country recover from Ebola.
Delivered by the IPC Academy and the Agitos Foundation, the OCP prioritises learning and training opportunities for NPC and National Federation staff and volunteers in the key areas that the International Paralympic Committee targets as strategic priorities, so that they can deliver workshops in their own countries and regions and take para-sport to new levels.
