An IPC Powerlifting National Referee course was held at the Creps de Wattignies in Wattignies, Lille, France, between 8-10 October, with five participants successfully passing it and becoming newly qualified IPC Powerlifting national technical officials.

The course covered many different topics such as the competition cycle, management and venue, athlete classification and eligibility, competition processes, athlete passport and competition forms, AH Formula and minimum qualifying standards, technical officials selection, roles and responsibilities, IPC Powerlifting technical rules and regulations, and lifter uniform and kit check.

“Hosting this successful course is a prime example to be followed by other European countries, currently practicing powerlifting or committed to develop the sport, seeking to host IPC Powerlifting approved national events in the future,” said Jon Amos, Sport Technical Committee Chairperson and course educator.

The course is also another step forward for the development of powerlifting in France, which will stage the Berck Sur Mer 2018 Para Powerlifting European Open Championships, from 25-30 May.
