IPC Governing Board to meet in Tokyo

The Governing Board of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), led by its President Sir Philip Craven, will begin three days of meetings in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday (5 June).
One of the main topics on the agenda is the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games medal events and athlete quota which the Board will be asked to approve.
The Board will also be updated on preparations for the PyeongChang 2018 and receive a presentation on the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games from the Organising Committee’s senior leadership team after receiving a tour of Tokyo 2020’s new offices.
Other items on the IPC Governing Board agenda are the approval of the final athletics programme for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and the IPC’s Audited Accounts for 2014. The Board will also be asked to grant provisional IPC membership to ISAF (Sailing), the World Taekwondo Federation, International Federation of CP Football (IFCPF) and the National Paralympic Committee of St Vincent and Grenadines and approve the new IPC Classification Code following a comprehensive two year review and update.
Should the Board approve the Classification Code and grant provisional membership to three new members then both will be put forward as motions at November’s IPC General Assembly in Mexico City, Mexico.
Updates will also be given on the work and progress of the IPC Management Team, preparations for October’s VISTA conference in Girona, Spain, the work of IPC Standing Committees and the progress of the IPC’s Classification Research and Development Centres.
The next Governing Board meeting after Tokyo will take place Mexico City ahead of November’s General Assembly.
