The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) completed its sixth Project Review for the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games this week and, with the two-years-to-go mark fast approaching, called upon the Organising Committee (POCOG) to focus greater attention on raising the profile of winter para-sports and leading para-athletes.

Three days of meetings were held from Monday to Wednesday (18-20 January) in Seoul, South Korea, and POCOG presented updates on all the functional areas for the Games which take place between 9 and 18 March 2018.

“Overall planning and preparations for the Games are progressing well and I would like to thank POCOG for their hard work to date,” said IPC Chief Executive Officer Xavier Gonzalez who led the IPC delegation in Seoul. “The venues are starting to take shape and with Test Events now underway, years of plans are starting to spring to life.

“In March it will be two years to go until the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Winter Games and between now and then I would like POCOG to really focus on increasing awareness and knowledge of para-sport and leading athletes in South Korea.

“These Games are a fantastic opportunity to engage new audiences in winter sport and grow participation. Recent research indicates awareness of para-winter sport is low, but now that POCOG has this benchmark, I hope they can over the next 24 months bring the Games and the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic brand to life.
