Five facts about…Canada’s Brent Lakatos

Canada’s Brent Lakatos is no stranger to topping the podium at major events and heads into the Doha 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships having won three gold medals at August’s Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games.
Here are five facts you might not know about him.
1. Lakatos almost retired from para-athletics after Beijing 2008...and then again after London 2012 – it is just as well he changed his mind, as he went on to win four world titles in 2013!
2. Alongside a busy training schedule, the Canadian works as a software engineer; recovery in Doha will include programming.
3. The 35-year-old loves to cook - specialties include Tom Kha Gai soup and ‘Man Stew’- “a hearty chunky stew – I made it for friends once, that's what they called it and it stuck.”
4. It took Lakatos 16 years to win his first Paralympic medal, and 27 tries to get his wife (Paralympic silver medallist Stef Reid) to go out with him - apparently she counted!
5. Although a proud Canadian, Lakatos lives and trains in Loughborough, Great Britain.
The IPC Athletics World Championships will take place in Doha, Qatar, between 21-31 October, attracting 1,400 athletes from 100 countries.
