Terezinha Guilhermina is arguably Brazil’s most well-known para-athlete having won multiple world and Paralympic titles.
Ahead of the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, here are five facts you might not know about the visually impaired sprinter.
1. Guilhermina has won a phenomenal 10 world and six Paralympic medals.
2. For the last decade the Brazilian has been the undisputed world number one in the 100m T11.
3. She has competed at goalball at national level.
4. The 37-year-old won triple sprint gold at last month’s Parapan Am Games, setting new Games records in the 200m and 400m in the process.
5. Guilhermina had a new guide – albeit briefly – when Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt guided her down the track in April ahead of the ‘Mano a Mano’ event in Brazil.
The IPC Athletics World Championships will take place in Doha, Qatar, between 21-31 October, attracting 1,400 athletes from 100 countries.
