The second leg of the 2015 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup is set to take place on Sunday (14 June) in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland.

More than 300 athletes from 37 countries will race over the three-day event, with Italy coming off a dominating showing in last week’s World Cup opener in Maniago, Italy.

Team Italy, which has been heavily favoured in this year’s Para-Cycling Road World Cup, collected 19 total medals, including 11 gold, in Maniago

France, Germany and Italy all have 30 or more entries in Yverdon-les-Bains, while the USA has 26 and host Switzerland features 18.

Top-notch H5 hand cyclists in South Africa’s Ernst Van Dyk and the Netherlands’ Tim DeVries, who finished as runner-up to Italy’s Alex Zanardi in Maniago, are expected to line up on the course. Germany’s Michael Teuber, the current C1 time trial World Champion and a winner in Maniago, also returns to this week’s event.

On the women’s side, Poland’s Anna Harkowska, the C5 gold medalist in Maniago, will compete in Yverdon-les-Bains. The US’s Allison Jones, who took home two medals in the first Road World Cup event of the season, will look to achieve similar success in her upcoming events.

Courses in the Swiss town will vary, challenging the competitors: the time trial will be flat, while a 14.57km loop of the road race will be rolling, with two climbs - one of which is 4km long.

The time trials will take place on Sunday, followed by the road races on Monday (15 June) and Tuesday (16 June).
