Wheelchair dance develops in Spain

The expansion of the sport in Europe is also in addition to the very first sanctioned competition taking place in Asia in Beijing, China, in 2014.
The development of wheelchair dance sport in Spain took a step forward on 10 January, with the integration of a combi-Latin competition into the able-bodied DanceSport Cup in Madrid.
Organised by the Spanish Federation of Dance Sport, four couples competed amongst over 100 dancers from around the world.
Nassim El Habbas and Nayara Palazon won the competition for wheelchair dancers, with Angel Miranda and partner Carmen Ibanez second and Fernando Crespo and Maria Dolors Lopez third.
Alberto Jofre, Managing Director of the Spanish Paralympic Committee, was in attendance.
The competition follows the success of the 2014 IPC Wheelchair Dance Sport European Championships in Lomianki, Poland, where around 110 athletes from 20 countries competed for honours in November.

Freestyle and singles dances were added to the competition programme last year, allowing dancers to show their individual talents and bring the sport up-to-date.
