China’s Zhangyu Li claimed three para-cycling gold medals and narrowly missed out on a fourth as the Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games came to a close in South Korea on 24 October.

He then clinched his second title in the men’s individual C1-5 1km time trial in 1:02.293, as he beat compatriots Liu and Hao Xie.

A third title then went went Li’s way, this time on the road, as he won the mixed MC1-5 and WC1-5 time trial in 19:38.22.

And a photo finish was needed to thwart Li collecting a fourth title in the men’s individual C 1-3 road race, as his compatriot Xie Hao took gold in 1:49.13.

Track

South Korea’s Jong-Giu Kim got the track events off to a flying start for the home nation as he won the men’s individual B pursuit in 4:40.359, beating Japan’s Oshiro Tatsuyuki (4:53.777) and Malaysia’s Aiman Asyraff Ahmad Bajuri (4:58.274).

China’s Liu Xinyang claimed the men’s individual C4-5 pursuit title, ahead of Japan’s Ishii Masashi (5:03.311) and Malaysia’s Mohd Najib Turano (5:24.342).

In the men’s mixed individual B 1km time trial, Japan’s Yurie Kanuma clinched the title in 1:14.914, with Malaysia’s Ahmad Bajuri forced into silver for a second time.

And finally, more Chinese success came in the women’s individual C1-5 500m time trial, as Zhenling Song raced home in 39.508.

Road

Kanuma (29:46.17) claimed his second Asian Para Games title, this time on the road, with victory in the mixed MB&WB time trial, beating South Korea’s Jong-Giu Kim (29:53.17).

But South Korea quickly started to show their strength and a gold-rush ensued, starting with Yong-Ki Kim winning the men’s individual H 1-3 time trial in 24:59.80, before adding his second and his country’s third title in men’s individual H3 road race, winning in 1:30.14.

The South Korean dominance continued as Do-Yeon Lee (27:44.11) collected the women’s individual H 1-5 time trial gold and the women’s individual H 3-4 road race in 1:24.16, with In-Jea Lee (1:31.08) following suit with gold in the men’s individual H4 road race.

Japan’s Noahiko Okumura (25:39.39) won the men’s individual H 4-5 time trial, before China clinched double gold through Guo Qing (1:38.24) in the women’s individual C 1-5 road race and Guoping Wei (2:10.26) in the men’s individual C 4-5 road race.

And in the final event, South Korea’s Jong-Giu Kim won the mixed MB&WB road race in 2:18.35.
