SuperheroSunday: Michal Derus
04.10.2015Poland’s double European champion tells us about his three heroes prior to Doha 2015.
This week’s #Superhero Sunday comes from Polish sprinter Michal Derus, who heads to Doha, Qatar, this month hoping for yet more golden success on the world stage.
The 25-year-old topped the podium two years ago in Lyon, France, winning the 100m T46 on his international debut.
He followed that up in 2014 with double sprint gold at the IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea, Great Britain, and continues to impress this year, topping the 100m T46/47 world rankings and winning at the IPC Grand Prix Final in July.
But who are his heroes? Let’s find out:
1. Usain Bolt (Jamaican multiple world and Olympic sprint champion)
The fastest man in the world. I’m sure every sprinter dreams of being like him.
2. My coach, Piotr Kuczek
I’ve trained with my coach for four years. I trust him completely because I’ve improved my results thanks to him. I believe that, with the help of my coach, I will reach for a medal in the Paralympic Games in Rio.
3. My family and girlfriend
They are a huge support and encourage me to fight. I know I can always count on them.
The 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships will take place between 21-31 October and feature more than 1,300 athletes from 100 countries. Tickets are on sale now.
