#SuperheroSunday: Liwan Yang
12.04.2015The double London 2012 Paralympic champion gives an insight into her three heroes
Superhero Sunday is here again! And with less than a week to go before the IPC Athletics Grand Prix in Beijing, China, it is time to hear from the host nation’s own double Paralympic gold medallist Liwan Yang.
The 37-year-old clinched gold in the shot put and javelin throws (F54-56) at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, but had to settle for two silvers at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France a year later.
Seven months ago Yang struck gold once again, this time winning the discus, shot put and javelin at the 2014 Asian Para Games in Incheon, South Korea, where she also managed a new world record in the javelin F54.
With that sort of form behind her, Yang could prove tough to beat come the IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, in October. We can all get a taste of what she may have in store for 2015 in six days’ time when she takes on the shot put, javelin and discus in Beijing.
Here are Liwan Yang’s superheroes:
Wang Xiuli, Chairman of Fujian Disabled Persons’ Federation & Lu Shangji, director of Sports and Culture Department of Fujian Disabled Persons’ Federation
They both gave me the opportunity to go back to the sports field, filling my life with passion and love again.
My coach
The third person is my coach Chen Zongji, who made a made-to-measure sports plan for me, which laid a solid foundation for my sports development.
