#SuperheroSunday: Marcel Hug
06.04.2015The Swiss wheelchair racer is an inspiration to millions due to his performances on the track, but who inspires him?
It is #SuperheroSunday time again, and today it is the turn of Switzerland’s multiple world champion Marcel Hug. This month the ‘Swiss Silver Bullet’ will seek to defend his world marathon title when he takes to the streets of London, Great Britain in three weeks’ time.
The IPC Athletics World Marathon Championships take place in conjunction with the Virgin London Marathon this year, with the track and field global titles decided in Doha, Qatar in seven months’ time.
And there is no doubt the 29-year-old will be aiming to kick start his world championship campaign with victory in the British capital, having triumphed in the 2014 London marathon.
With five gold medals from the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France and four world records to his name, Hug is already an inspiration to many. Now it’s his turn to tell us who inspires him.
Alongside his three elder brothers, here are Marcel Hug’s heroes:
Roger Federer - Swiss tennis player
Roger Federer of course! He is a great athlete and an inspiration as a Swiss athlete.
Nelson Mandela - anti-apartheid revolutionary
His history and what he did is very impressive.
Michael Jackson - American pop star
One of the greatest artists in the world and the real King of Pop. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to go to a concert.
Switzerland’s Marcel Hug is set to be one of 1,300 athletes from 90 countries who compete at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships which take place in Doha, Qatar, between 22-31 October.
