Norway’s Ulset heads to Worlds in prime form
09.02.2017The Para Nordic skier is looking to build on a strong start to the season in order to claim medals at the 2017 World Championships in Finsterau, Germany.
Nils-Erik Ulset is gearing up for the 2017 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships as one of Norway’s best Para Nordic skiers, but is playing his cards close to his chest in terms of targets.
With 11 medals across four Paralympic Winter Games to date, including three at Sochi 2014, Ulset will be keen to add to his tally at PyeongChang 2018.
As a marker for that Ulset will look to improve on his silver and bronze medal from the 2015 Worlds in Finsterau, Germany, from Friday (10 February).
“I had a good training season and it's always fun when that results in good races.”
He has made a good start to the 2016-17 season and is currently second in the men’s biathlon standing rankings.
“I'm very pleased with my start to the season,” said Ulset. “I had a good training season and it's always fun when that results in good races.”
While he is skiing well at the moment, he continues to analyse his performances.
“There are always so many areas where I can improve, so it's almost impossible to pick just one. Looking at my best performance, I think it was in the individual in Vuokatti. That was for me a perfect race in every stage.”
Ulset competes across a range of disciplines, including the biathlon, cross-country relay and individual cross-country races. All of them will set him in good stead for the World Championships.
“Each race in the World Cups gives me good answers on what I've done well and what I need to improve on,” he said. “I have been to Finsterau twice before. I always set a medal target but I keep that to myself. A successful tournament will mean a clean and fair Championships. And on a personal level, that I achieve my goals.”
