International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Sir Philip Craven will be in New Delhi, India, on Monday (24 November) to give a keynote address at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) International Conference “From Exclusion to Empowerment” – The Role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for Persons with Disabilities.

Around 500 international, regional and national participants from around the world are expected in New Delhi between 24-26 November, including government officials, policy and decision makers and representatives of ICT, media and the film industry.

The major objective of the event is to promote the human rights and fundamental freedoms of people with an impairment and to encourage all stakeholders to take concrete measures for the empowerment of this group of people through the effective application of ICTs.

Sir Philip will talk about the benefits of practicing para-sport and how information and communication technologies have made it easier for the Paralympic Movement to engage global audiences and, in-turn, encourage more people to get active in para-sport.

During his address, the IPC President will talk about how the London 2012 Paralympic Games attracted a record cumulative global TV audience of 3.8 billion and how through working with its partners, the IPC is aiming to make the Paralympic Movement from the grassroots right through to the elite level more accessible for all.

Sir Philip Craven said: “I’m really looking forward to addressing the audience on Monday in New Delhi as I suspect some of them will be unfamiliar with para-sport and what impact it can have on making for an inclusive society.
