George Bouska has won the prestigious Czech Cycling Federation’s 2014 King of Cycling award for para-cyclists after enjoying great success at the 2014 UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships.

At August’s event in Greenville, USA, Bouska won the world time trial C4 title and claimed bronze in the road race C4. The 35-year-old also finished top of the UCI world rankings in the C4 class.

"For me it was one of the toughest seasons, but efforts to develop managed to transform the outstanding achievements," said Bouska who was born with cerebral palsy that affects the left side of his body.

"Balance is very important for cycling. I needed to give it 20 years until I was used a bike, but when I started it, I fell off it 10 times a day.

"I really appreciate being in the company of such stars of our sport such as Zdenek Stybar, Leopold König and Jan Barta with victory in such a prestigious poll. It’s a great honour for me.”

The overall winner was Zdenek Stybar who won the World Cyclo-cross Championships for a third time in 2014.
