China dominated the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Asian Wheelchair Fencing Championships 2016, which concluded on Sunday (10 April) in Hong King, China.

China captured gold medals in the women’s individual epee (category A and B) and men’s epee team events in the final day of the tournament. They topped the medal tally with 11 golds, six silvers and eight bronzes. Hong Kong was next with 15 medals (one gold, five silvers and nine bronzes).

In the women’s individual epee category A event, China’s Jing Bian secured the gold, holding off compatriot Xufeng Zou 15-13 in the finals. Zou had previously defeated Hong Kong’s defending Paralympic champion Yee Yu Chui in the semi-finals. Chui and China’s Chuncui Zhang shared the bronze.

Zou however was triumphant in the women’s foil category A, defeating compatriot Jing Rong 15-10 in the finals. Chui and Zhang captured the bronze.

China’s Jingjing Zhou took gold in the women’s individual epee category B event in commanding fashion, defeating South Korea’s Ah Kim Jung 15-5 in the finals. Hong Kong’s Chong Chan Yui and China’s Fang Yao took the bronze.

Hong Kong found gold in the women’s foil category B, where Chong Chan Yui edged Zhou 15-12 in the finals. Hong Kong’s Ping Chung Yuen and Yao left with bronze.

In the men’s competition, China’s Jianquan Tian left the Asian Championships with two gold medals (sabre and epee category A). Tian defeated compatriot Yujun Chen in the 15-8 in the sabre. Hong Kong’s Fung Chi Ng and China’s Ryuyi Ye took bronze.

Tian also defeated Iraq’s Zainulabdeen Al-Madhkhoori in the epee final 15-8. China’s Gang Sun and Hong Kong’s Tat Wong Tang captured the bronze.

Sun did capture gold in the men’s foil category A, ousting Chen 15-4.

China’s Yanke Feng took double gold in the men’s foil and sabre category B. Hong Kong’s Sum Tam Chik was silver medallist behind Feng in the men’s sabre, followed by Malaysia’s Adam Salleh Muhammad and Azrul Shaharuddin Mohammad.

China’s Daoliang Hu was second behind Feng in the foil. Iraq’s Amar Ali and Hong Kong’s Ching Chung Ting shared the bronze.

Ali did find victory in the men’s epee category B, defeating Chik 15-8 in the finals. Ting and Daoliang shared third-place.

China triumphed in all three men’s team events.
