"We are delighted to announce this partnership with BP, one of the world’s biggest companies, who showed significant support for the whole Paralympic Movement in the lead-up to London 2012. Following the success of London it is fantastic news that they want to continue to build on the momentum generated by the best ever Paralympic Games between now and 2016."

BP has taken a major step in supporting Paralympic sport throughout the world by becoming an International Partner of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) until the end of 2016.

Having supported the London 2012 Paralympics, as well as various National Paralympic Committees and athletes competing at the Games, BP is now keen to work with the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement on a longer term partnership.

Today’s announcement comes on top of the BP support for National Paralympic Committees in the UK, USA, Angola, Azerbaijan, Georgia. ese partnerships reflect the strong alignment of values between BP and the Paralympic organisation

Iain Conn, BP group managing director and chief executive officer, refining and marketing said: “London 2012 has been recognised as the most successful Paralympic Games ever and we are pleased to continue to support a movement that enables Paralympic athletes to inspire and excite the world through sporting excellence.”

Sir Philip Craven, IPC President, said: "We are delighted to announce this partnership with BP, one of the world’s biggest companies, who showed significant support for the whole Paralympic Movement in the lead-up to London 2012.

"Following the success of London it is fantastic news that they want to continue to build on the momentum generated by the best ever Paralympic Games between now and 2016.

"What is so great about this partnership is that BP does not just want to work with the IPC but also wants to work with a number of the countries in which they operate to help raise awareness of the Paralympic Movement and its athletes.”

BP has already announced in the UK that it is an official partner for the Commonwealth Games 2014, as well as the official top tier partner for the British Olympic Association and British Paralympic Association through to the end of 2016. BP will also continue its support for its six British athletes who were BP athlete ambassadors for London 2012.

BP’s Target Neutral, not-for-profit carbon management programme, will be the official offset partner.
