Para alpine skiing Worlds to be streamed live

The 2017 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships in Tarvisio, Italy, will be shown live alongside live results at www.tarvisio2017.com between 22-31 January.

The last major Championships ahead of the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games will feature 30 medal events across men’s and women’s slalom, giant slalom, super combined, super-G and downhill sitting, standing and visually impaired.

Around 130 of the world’s best skiers from 25 countries are expected to compete.

Craig Spence, Director of Media and Communications for World Para Alpine Skiing, said: “Llive Para sport will return to our platforms to highlight a fantastic season of alpine skiing.

“It is one of the most exciting sports around, with sit-skiers, standing skiers and blind skiers reaching high speeds and searching for technical perfection in their quest for gold medals.

“In 2017 the Worlds will have added significance. It will be a great indication of which athletes are on form with just over one year to go until PyeongChang 2018.

“We are really pleased to be able to offer a livestream to existing fans of sport, as well as using it to attract new followers in the build-up to the next Winter Paralympics. Do not miss out.”

Of the skiers expected to travel to Tarvisio, France’s 11-time world champion Marie Bochet is a one to watch in the women’s standing.

Competing just across the border from their native Austria will be downhill Paralympic champion Markus Salcher in the men’s standing and world champion Claudia Loesch in the women’s sitting.

At the 2015 World Championships, Loesch beat German Paralympic title holder Anna Schaffelhuber to gold in the downhill, super combined and slalom.

Italy’s Giacomo Bertagnolli is hotly tipped in the men’s visually impaired with guide Fabrizio Casal. The 17-year-old finished second in both the giant slalom and slalom World Cups in 2015-16, and will be hoping the home snow will give him the edge.

After the Opening Ceremony in Tarvisio’s town square on 22 January, followed by two days of training, the downhill will provide an enthralling opening to the Championships on 25 January.

Super-G follows on 26 January before super combined on 28 January. Slalom and giant slalom will be contested on 30 and 31 January.

All races are scheduled to begin at 10:00am (CET) on each day, weather permitting.
