    Goalball world rankings updated

    IBSA have published the goalball rankings as of 30 September, with Brazil leading amongst men and women.

    After finishing fourth at Rio 2016, the Brazilian women’s goalball team now leads the world rankings as of 30 September, as published by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA), ahead of Paralympic silver medallists China and Rio 2016 champions Turkey.

    Japan have fallen two places to fifth whilst Paralympic bronze medallists USA have moved up to fourth. Russia, Canada, Australia, Israel and Germany complete the top ten.

    Amongst the men, the top five remain the same, with Brazil leading followed by Paralympic champions Lithuania, Iran, China and Turkey.

    The USA climbed from ninth to sixth and is now ranked ahead of Sweden, Finland, Canada and the Czech Republic.

    Men’s standings. 1. Brazil; 2. Lithuania; 3. Iran; 4. China; 5. Turkey; 6. USA; 7. Sweden; 8. Finland; 9. Canada; 10. Czech Republic.

    Women’s standings. 1. Brazil; 2. China; 3. Turkey; 4. USA; 5. Japan; 6. Russia; 7. Canada; 8. Australia; 9. Israel; 10. Germany.

    *Editor’s note: The International Paralympic Committee suspended the Russian Paralympic Committee on 7 August for its inability to fulfil its IPC membership responsibilities and obligations, in particular its obligation to comply with the IPC Anti-Doping Code and the World Anti-Doping Code (to which it is also a signatory).
