IPC Athletics, the international federation of Para athletics, has reached an agreement with ASICS, the true sport performance brand as an Official Partner through to 2020.

The six-figure agreement is the first partnership of its kind for IPC Athletics and a sports brand. As part of the five-year agreement, ASICS will provide apparel for all international officials and IPC Athletics staff and focus on the development and promotion of Para athletics and the Paralympic Movement. ASICS will also have activation rights at selected major Championships and events.

Ryan Montgomery, IPC Summer Sports Director said: “We are delighted to be partnering with such a strong and recognised brand as ASICS as we approach the end of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. The length of their commitment shows the strength of Para athletics and we are excited on working together on future development and promotion of Para athletics over the next five years.”

“We are very proud to be a partner of IPC Athletics.” said Paul Miles, Senior General Manager, Global Marketing Division at ASICS Corporation. “This sponsorship is a testimony to our company values and our core beliefs match the Paralympic Movement. We are very excited to work with IPC Athletics and develop a deep partnership towards 2020.”

ASICS becomes IPC Athletics’ second Official Partner together with Allianz who agreed a partnership with the sport in May 2014.

In recent years, IPC Athletics has developed a long-term competition calendar offering athletes greater competition opportunities at all levels.

Following the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, 2017 will be a busy year for the sport. In addition to the fifth year of the IPC Athletics Grand Prix series, the World Championships will be held in London, Great Britain in July. The World Abbott Marathon Majors will also continue with the world’s best wheelchair racers competing in many of the world’s leading distance races. In early August the first edition of the IPC Athletics Junior World Championships will be held in Nottwil, Switzerland.
