Austrian skiers claim six podiums at Espot Europa Cup

Austria’s Roman Rabl followed on from his double win in super combined this week, with victory in giant slalom at the IPC Alpine Skiing Europa Cup in Espot, Spain, on Wednesday (10 February).

Rabl (2:06.04) was fastest in his first men’s sitting run and as light snow began to fall on the course, the Paralympic bronze medallist also went quickest on his second.

Norway’s Jesper Pedersen (2:12.72) skied consistently to take second place, ahead of the Netherlands’ Niels de Langen (2:13.41) in third.

In the men’s standing, Austria’s Christoph Bernhard Schneider (2:06.29) triumphed over teammate Martin Wuerz (2:08.18).

Wuerz had claimed both wins in super combined but this time Schneider came out on top with two fastest runs.

Finland’s Santeria Kiiveri (2:10.06) completed the podium in third.

Gernot Morgenfurt (2:12.92), guided by Christoph Peter Gmeiner, led the men’s visually impaired field as he had done in the two previous days.

Croatia’s Damir Mizdrak (2:33.12) was second with guide Luka Debeljak.

There will be a second giant slalom race in Espot on Thursday (11 February).
