Para-alpine skiing continues to build momentum in the Americas as slalom races in San Martin de los Andres are recognised by IPC Alpine Skiing for the first time.

Para-alpine skiing continues to build momentum in the Americas as athletes from Argentina and Chile gathered in the Chapelco Ski Resort in Argentina for races from 17-19 September.
Giant slalom and slalom competitions in visually impaired, sitting and standing classifications at San Martin de los Andres featured a total of 10 athletes.
Results from the men’s slalom sitting races were recognised by IPC Alpine Skiing for the first time.
Home skiers dominated with a win for Enrique Plantey, followed by Leonardo Martinez. Chile’s Diego Primero Seguel Moreno was third.
The races were supported and organised by the Argentina Paralympic Committee and the Argentina Ski Mountaineering Federation and were overseen by Technical Delegate Ernesto Cingolani.
The competitions also coincided with the third Molly O’Brien meeting, an annual event hosted to attract new skiers across all classifications to give alpine skiing a try.
Pablo Robledo, Argentina’s flag bearer at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, was also in attendance as part of his role as a ski instructor at the resort.
