Glasgow 2015 media coverage a success in Spain

Spain’s broadcast of the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships last week (13-19 July) in Glasgow, Great Britain, reached almost 1.5 million accumulated audience on TV, with a peak of 440,000.
Teledeporte, Spain’s sports television, averaged about 59,000 viewers throughout the World Championships. Grada1 TV’s live stream of the World Championships was the second most-watched broadcast on Grada1.tv, averaging 14,346 viewers.
Grada1.tv offered commentary in Spanish from journalists Carlos Mateos and Israel Iniguez, and Paralympic swimmer Carla Casals as technical specialist.
Both Teledeporte and Grada1.tv’s broadcast of Glasgow 2015 were made possible by three ADOP Plan sponsors: AXA, Telefonica Foundation and Ford Foundation, all which provided financial support for the Spanish Paralympic Committee to meet the costs of acquisition competition rights.
On the social media side, the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) also saw success in their Facebook and Twitter pages, as a variety of content (e.g. photos, videos, news, results, messages from players) offered dynamic interaction and reached a total of 31,700 users during the period of Glasgow 2015.
Facebook.com/paralimpicos spiked to nearly 13,000 likes after sharing content on Glasgow 2015. The CPE’s Twitter account @Paralimpicoshas about 8.5K followers, having grown by more than 300 followers in July. During the week of Glasgow, @Paralympicos tweeted 332 times and got 478,000 impressions of tweets, 8,429 profile views and 724 mentions.
Spanish swimmers received a congratulatory message via Twitter from President Mariano Rajoy. Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Inigo Mendez de Vigo also shared his congratulations via a press release.
Glasgow 2015 saw Spanish coverage in print (e.g. Marca, a daily sports newspaper in Spain), digital media, broadcast (e.g. Tele 5 and TV3) and radio, where the four major chains in the country (SER, Onda Cero, National Radio and Cope) interviewed Spanish swimmer Teresa Perales, who won six medals (two golds).
