    Eram surprises in Iranian showdown at World Cup

    The No. 4-ranked shooter won gold in the women’s P2 in Croatia, upsetting top-ranked compatriot Javanmardidodmani.

    Samira Eram came out victorious in an all Iranian showdown on Monday (13 July), day four of the IPC Shooting World Cup in Osijek, Croatia, winning gold in P2 (women’s10m air pistol SH1).

    Following the elimination of Ukraine’s world No.1 Olga Kovalchuk (70.6) in the opening round of the second stage, world No.4 Eram (197.9) went on to top an all-Iranian podium by beating compatriot Alieh Mahmoudikordkheili (196.2) in the final round. World champion and world record holder Sareh Javanmardidodmani (176.5) took the bronze in an event which acts as qualifier for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

    In P1 (men’s10m air pistol SH1), 25-year-old Ukrainian Oleksii Denysiuk (200.5) took gold after breaking the finals world record set by at Uzbekistan’s Server Ibragimov this April’s World Cup in Poland.

    China’s Chao Yang (195.7) won silver, followed by Russia’s Sergey Malyshev (174.7).

    The category’s top-ranked shooter, Stewart Nangle of Great Britain, also saw an early exit, shooting a 70.2 after three rounds.

    Competition at the 2015 IPC Shooting World Cup concludes on Tuesday (14 July).
