#SuperheroSunday: Margarita Goncharova
28.06.2015After breaking the long jump T38 world record last week in Berlin, Germany, the T38 athlete shares with us her three heroes.
This week’s Superhero Sunday comes from Russia’s world, Paralympic and European long jump T38 champion Margarita Goncharova, who leapt in to the record books at last week’s (20 June) IPC Athletics Grand Prix in Berlin, Germany.
The 24-year-old twice broke the world record on her way to victory, finishing her competition with a phenomenal leap of 5.22m to add to her win over 100m.
The Russian clinched four gold medals at last year’s European Championships and will be among the favourites once again at October’s World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
Here are her three heroes:
Usain Bolt (Jamaican sprinter – world record holder and multiple Olympic and world champion)
I just like him! I like his results, and also his attitude and his relationship with people, spectators and the track and field world.
My coach (Aleksandra Antonova)
My coach used to be a 100m hurdles athlete so she is a role model to me.
Yelena Isinbayeva (Russian pole vaulter – world record holder and multiple Olympic and world champion)
She inspires me because of her performances. She is a unique athlete – and she is Russian too!
The IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha takes place between 22-31 October.
