The first two days (16-17 June) of the Cerebral Palsy Football 7-a-side World Championships 2015 at St. George’s Park in Great Britain have seen goals galore with 43 scored in the first seven games.

Hosts England made a strong start on Tuesday (16 June) with a resounding 14-0 win over Japan in Group A. Team captain Jack Rutter scored a double hat-trick, while James Blackwell and Jake Brown both netted twice.

Michael Barker and Emyle Rudder were England’s other two scorers.

Tuesday’s second game was a much closer affair between Australia and Portugal, two teams ranked 12th and 14th in the world respectively. Two goals – one at each end of the second half - from James Turner gave the Pararoos a confidence boosting 2-0 win in Group B.

Pre-tournament favourites and defending champions Russia opened their Group B account in emphatic fashion, trashing Republic of Ireland 8-1. A third minute Eduard Ramonov strike was the worst possible start for the Irish, but they were soon back on level terms thanks to an equaliser from Gary Messett.

Russia then showed their class and goals from Dmitrii Pestretsov (2), Alexei Borkin (2), Viacheslev Lorianov, Alexander Kuligin, plus a second for Ramonov, secured them the best possible start.

On Wednesday (17 June) in Group C, Kevin Hensley starred for the USA, netting two goals, on the way to a 3-0 victory over Venezuela. Bryce Boarman got the other US goal in a game they dominated from the kickoff.

Brazil – one of the pre-tournament favourites – recorded a comfortable 6-0 victory over Scotland. Wanderson Silva de Oliveira – considered among the world's best – was the star for Brazil, scoring two and assisting in three other goals. Jan Francisco Brito da Costa, Fernandes Celso Alves Vieira, Jose Carols Monteiro Guimarae and Jonatas Santos Machado were the other scorers as Brazil raced to the top of Group C.

Wednesday’s third game was the day’s closest as Canada edged out Northern Ireland 3-1 in Group D. Goals from Dustin Hodgson, Trevor Stiles and Sam Charron proved decisive for the Canadians. Northern Ireland’s goal came off a Cormac Birt free-kick.

The Netherlands top Group D after they hammered Argentina 4:1. Last year’s European Championships runners-up led after 11 minutes courtesy of a Minnie De Vos strike after some slick passing. Iljas Visker doubled their lead soon after before Argentina pulled one back through Matias Bassi’s powerful drive.

Two goals in the space of a minute during the second half from Visker and Lars Conijn secured the Dutch their first win of the tournament.

Thursday’s (18 June) matches include: Russia vs. Portugal, Australia vs. Ireland and Japan vs. Ukraine.
