17.05.2015Twenty-three swimmers will compete at the most important international competition and major qualifier ahead of Rio 2016 – the 2015 Worlds.
Dias’ clash with Great Britain’s Andrew Mullen, the new four-time European champion, is set to be one of the highlights of the Championships - particularly in the 50m backstroke where just over one second separates the two in the 2015 world rankings.
Brazil have named 23 swimmers who will compete at July’s 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Great Britain, as they prepare for their home Paralympic Games at Rio 2016.
Glasgow 2015, which runs from 13-19 July, is expected to attract over 550 of the world’s best athletes from over 60 countries and amongst them are some of the biggest names in para-swimming, direct from Brazil.
Brazil’s most successful Paralympic athlete with 15 medals from across two Games, men’s S5 swimmer Daniel Dias has booked his ticket to Great Britain. Dias, 26, is the world record holder in almost every event on the programme and the reigning world champion in six.
Dias’ clash with Great Britain’s Andrew Mullen, the new four-time European champion, is set to be one of the highlights of the Championships - particularly in the 50m backstroke where just over one second separated the two in 2014.
Twelve-time world championships gold medallist Andre Brasil will be defending three individual men’s S10 titles this summer, on his way to Rio 2016 where he will be aiming for at least the same number of Paralympic golds.
His teammate and rival Phelipe Rodrigues is a silver and bronze medallist from the 2013 Worlds in Montreal, Canada, and could prove to be a wildcard having finished as 2014 No.1 in the 50m freestyle.
On the women’s side Susanna Ribeiro was also a gold medallist from 2013 in the 100m breaststroke SB6 and Edenia Garcia sealed silver in the 50m backstroke S4. Joanna Maria Silva was a triple bronze medallist in women’s S5 events.
