Three athletics Asian records fall in Incheon

Three more Asian records fell in athletics on day three (Tuesday 21 October) of the Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games in South Korea.

It was another dominant day for China, as they won 13 titles and now sit top of the overall medals table with 179 medals including 95 golds.

Two Asian records fell in the field, with China's Zhanbiao Hou throwing a huge 49.32m in the men's discus throw F46, before Malaysian 17-year-old Abdul Latif Romly jumped 7.01m in the men's long jump T20.

And on the track, Japan's Atsushi Yamamoto ran a lightening 12.81 to break the Asian record in the men's 100m T42.

Track

China enjoyed a dominant morning session, with Bingbing Jiang kicking off proceedings with gold in the men's 100m T13 in 11.58, beating compatriot Guo Jin (11.63) and Thailand's Songwut Lamsan (11.78).

Another Chinese one-two was to follow as Hongzhaun Zhou won the women's 800m T53 in 1:57.24, narrowly beating Lisha Huang (1:58.24) and Japan's Kazumi Nakayama (2:05.79).

Then followed Wenjun Liu's victory (2:00.21) in the women's 800m T54, Lin Zhu's gold in women's 100m T13 in 13.13, Huzhao Li's victory (15.19) in the men's 100m T53, Guiqing Liu (25.62) winning the women's 200m T11 and finally Yanping Wang (12.66) in the women's 100m T44/47.

Elsewhere, there was double gold for Malaysia as Mohammad Azlan Mat Lazin (26.26) won the men's 200m T37, and Siti Nooriasah Mohamad Ariffin strode to glory (1:02.45) in the women's 400m T20.

There was also triple success for Thailand, as Saichon Konjen (14.68) claimed victory in the men's 100m T54, Rawa Tana won the men's 5,000m T54 in 10:24.31 and Pichaya Kurattanasiri (1:02.38) scooped the men's 400m T52 title.

And finally, Iraq's Abbas Hatem Jaber Al-Darraji (25.03) won the men's 200m T35/37/38.

Field

Iran enjoyed a successful day in the field, winning four titles. There was an Iranian one-two in the women's shot put F57 final, as Mahnaz Amini Nogourani (7.92m) edged out Fatemah Montazari Ghahjaverestani (7.66m).

And Nogourani's second gold medal was to follow as she threw 21.57m in the javelin F57.

Another Iranian one-two then ensued in the men's shot put F53/54 as Alireza Makhtari Hemami threw 6.60m to beat compatriot Abdolreza Jokar (5.53m).

And finally, Younes Seifipour took victory in the men's shot put F32 with 6.85m.

China also enjoyed more success, with gold for Zou Lijuan in the women's javelin F33/34 with a distance of 17.92m (714 points), Yanlong Fu (49.90) in the men's javelin F42/44, Mingyu Chen (6.88m) in the men's long jump T11/12, Fexia Dong (22.0m) in the women's discus F55/56 and Jun Wang (10.34m) in the women's shot put F35/36.

Uzbekistan's Khusniddin Norbekov threw a huge 53.84m on his way to gold in the men's discus F37.

Saudi Arabia's Hani Hussain M Alnakhli collected his country's second gold medal of the Games with victory in the men's shot put F33, throwing 8.55m, and South Korea's Sun-Jeong Kim won the women's club throw F31/32/51, with a distance of 10.7m (648 points).

The Asian Para Games sees athletes from 41 countries competing across 23 sports until 24 October.
