One of the athletes who starred in Dubai was the UAE’s own Paralympian Mariam Matroushi, who set new world-best marks of 22.56m in the women’s discus F47 and 27.72m in the javelin F47.
Eleven world records – pending IPC Athletics ratification – were broken at the 5th Fazza International Athletics Competition in Dubai, UAE, this week, which was the first stop on the 2013 IPC Athletics Grand Prix.
One of the athletes who starred in Dubai was the UAE’s own Paralympian Mariam Matroushi, who set new world-best marks of 22.56m in the women’s discus F47 and 27.72m in the javelin F47.
Tunisia also had plenty of success in Dubai, as Raoua Tlili set a new world-best mark of 29.12m in the women’s discus F41 and Sofyane Mejri did the same on the men’s side of the event with a mark of 33.59m.
Great Britain’s Lee Whiteley broke world records in the 100m and 200m T35 sprints with times of 11.60 and 24.79.
British sprinter Graeme Ballard raced to a first-place finish in the 100m T36 in 12.44 seconds and Russia’s Alexey Ashapatov finished first in the shot put F57/58 with a mark of 15.62m.
Ballard recorded another top finish with a time of 25.72 in the 200m T36, and he also went on to win the 400m T35/36 final in 58 seconds.
Germany’s Marc Schuh crossed the line first in a packed 100m T54 men’s field in a time of 14.88 and then did the same in the 200m distance in a time of 26.89. Finland’s Amanda Kotaja won both those distances in the women’s T52/53/54 event with times of 17.37 and 32.57, respectively.
Kazakhstan’s Irina Tychshenko set a new world-best of 19.09m in the women’s discus F45, while Iran’s Ramezanali Doolabi threw a new top mark of 13.89 in the men’s shot put F47.
