US Paralympics announced on Thursday (11 April) that 25 athletes have been selected to compete for the USA at the 2013 International Paralympic Committee Swimming World Championships in Montreal, Canada, from 12-18 August. The event is the first major international swimming competition since the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

"In Montreal, US Paralympics will be represented by both seasoned and up-and-coming, extremely talented athletes," said Queenie Nichols, USOC high performance director for Para-swimming.

"While we look forward to our veteran athletes continuing the momentum of Team USA's 41-medal performance at the recent Paralympic Games, there are many new athletes who will be starting their legacy this season.

“Team USA is a mixture of today's best Paralympic swimmers and the faces of the future, which will make for a truly exciting IPC Swimming World Championships."

Athletes were selected to compete in Montreal based on their performances at the 2013 US Paralympics Spring Swimming National Championships/2013 Spring CanAm, which ended Saturday at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Team USA won 57 medals (20 gold, 18 silver and 19 bronze) at the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
