The Netherlands’s Anna Jochemsen is one of her country’s best alpine skiers.

This ski season, the 31-year-old will try to defend and improve on her super combined bronze medal from the 2015 World Championships.

She will do that at the 2017 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships in Tarvisio, Italy from 22-31 January.

Before that, Jochemsen will compete on the IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup circuit, which gets underway in Kuhtai, Austria, from 15-17 December.

Get to know her as the season begins.

    1. As a child, I lived in Finland and the US, both for seven months

Jochemsen first tried skiing in the USA when she was seven years old and instantly fell in love with it. However she was also born in Manzini, Swaziland, making her well-travelled even before she became a teenager.

    2. I secretly like extreme weather days

Jochemsen does her strength and conditioning training at the National Sports Centre Papendal in Arnhem. However it is her on-snow training in the Alps where she can really enjoy those adverse conditions.

    3. I’ve got my PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) in scuba diving

Outside the winter season, Jochemsen prefers the water she comes into contact with to be a bit more liquid.

The Tarvisio 2017 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships will be the last major gathering of the world’s best skiers before PyeongChang 2018.

Media accreditation is available at the Tarvisio 2017 website.
