The Netherlands’ Phil Bottomley set a new world record at the Para-Archery World Ranking Tournament in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, scoring 632 points in the recurve men’s open division.

Bottomley – who represented Great Britain at London 2012 and collected team bronze with the nation at the last para worlds – won four elimination matches before losing to Iran’s Ebrahim Ranjbarkivaj in the final.

More than 140 archers from 24 countries participated in the last event ahead of the World Archery Para Championships on 23-30 August in Donaueschingen, Germany.

Two new team world records were also broken in Nove Mesto, giving a glimpse of what is to come at the World Championships.

Germany’s compound women’s open team set a world record with 227 points for the 24-arrow match at 50 metres. Great Britain’s W1 mixed team secured the third and final record of the competition by shooting 152 points for the 16-arrow match.

Russia took the most medals with 11, followed by Great Britain with eight and the Czech Republic in third with five.

On a growing international para-world ranking event circuit, Nove Mesto has cemented itself as one of the most popular annual tournaments. The 2016 edition of the Nove Mesto tournament will also act as a secondary qualifier for Rio 2016.
