Swimming: Day eight preview15.09.2016
The USA’s Bradley Snyder will go for his third gold as Ukraine’s Maksym Krypak will aim for his fourth.
Check out this guide to day eight at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium.
Men’s 100m freestyle S11
This could be a chance for the USA’s world champion Bradley Snyder to collect another gold medal, with his current total standing at three. He won the first Paralympic gold of his career in this event four years ago, so it will have sentimental value for him.
Men’s 200m freestyle S3
This race was taken off the schedule for London 2012, meaning that Beijing 2008 Paralympic champion Dmytro Vynohradets could not defend his gold. He will be back in Rio hoping to climb onto the top step of the podium once again.
Women’s 100m freestyle S11
New Zealand’s Mary Fisher was the silver medallist at London 2012, finishing behind Italy’s Cecilia Camellini. The Italian was absent during both the 2013 and 2015 World Championships and Fisher collected the gold. This race will see them clash for the first time since the last Paralympics.
Women’s 200m individual medley SM5
Men’s 50m backstroke S2
China’s Paralympic champion Yang Yang is still just a teenager but will be defending gold in Rio. His teammate Liankang Zou is his greatest competitor, having set a new world record in June.
Men’s 400m freestyle S10
Ukraine’s Maksym Krypak is currently the second most decorated athlete at Rio 2016 with three golds and two silvers from all of his events. Canada’s Benoit Huot collected silver at the 2015 World Championships and will try and upset the Ukrainian’s dominance.
