Even Steve Cash – one of the best Para ice hockey goaltenders in the world on a team that has won six straight international tournament titles – has new goals he needs to work on in 2017.

The two-time Paralympic and three-time world champion recently had a stellar performance at the World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Canada, where he powered the U. to its third consecutive gold medal in the event. Over four games, Cash recorded an 0.921 save percentage and 0.849 goals against average, recording one shutout in the process.

Coming off the tournament, here are three resolutions Cash has set for himself in 2017:

    1. Spend more time with his family. Having travelled with the US Para ice hockey team while also earning a finance degree, Cash has been extremely busy the last several years. So this year, he is vowing to channel most of his spare time to family affairs.

    2. Compete in every game like it is his last. Cash is pondering retirement after the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, and while he has not ruled out any options yet, he has become particularly focused on ensuring the team will be “in good hands” if he departs next year.

    3. Lose five pounds. Because who does not want to lose five pounds? Cash said he will add an extra gym day to his schedule each week, and that fans can hold him to this resolution at the end of the year.
