Sina Sports partners with the International Paralympic Committee
06.09.2016Expanded coverage of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games are available on Sina Sports.
Sina Sports and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced on Tuesday (6 September) that they have entered into a strategic partnership for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games which open in Brazil on Wednesday.
With Sina Sports becoming the “Online Partner of the International Paralympic Committee in China”, the IPC aims to increase its digital presence in Asia ahead of Paralympic Games which will take place in the continent in 2018, 2020 and 2022.
For the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Sina Sports has created a new special feature page to house expanded coverage of the Games, available here. The IPC will provide Sina Sports with videos and articles throughout the Games, as well as publish highlights on Sina Weibo. The IPC will also produce and deliver special interviews and content with Chinese athletes to Sina Sports.
Craig Spence, the IPC’s Director of Media and Communications, said: “With the next three Paralympic Games taking place in Asia after Rio, we felt now was the right time to grow our presence in Asia, and in particular China.
“China has a strong track record of excellence in Paralympic sport and with the Paralympic Winter Games taking place in Beijing in six years’ time, we hope this partnership helps to increase awareness of Para sport and leading athletes.”
The partnership between Sina Sports and the IPC is designed to help raise the profile and increase awareness of the Paralympic Games in China. This year, a total of 308 Chinese athletes will participate in the Paralympic Games in Rio, marking China’s largest ever delegation. China has taken home the most medals of any country at the last three Paralympic Games in London, Beijing, and Athens, respectively.
