Russia, Ukraine maintain unbeaten records at World Championships
21.06.2015Russia, Ukraine, England and Republic of Ireland booked their quarter final places on Saturday after the final fixtures in Groups A and B.
Ukraine faces Japan during the Cerebral Palsy Football 7-a-side World Championships 2015 on 18 June in St. George’s Park in Great Britain.

Defending champions Russia maintained their 100 per cent record at the Cerebral Palsy Football 7-a-side World Championships at St. George’s Park, Great Britain, on Saturday (20 June) with a thumping 5-0 win over Australia.
The Russians have now scored 22 goals in three games and progressed to the quarter-finals of the tournament from Group B with maximum points.
Goals from Eduard Ramanov, Alexander Kuligin, Lasah Murvanadze, Alexey Tukakov and Alexey Chesmin sealed the win for the London 2012 Paralympic champions.
Joining them from Group B in the next round are the Republic of Ireland who were in sensational form in Saturday in their game against Portugal.
With a large vocal support behind them, Ireland made a fantastic start scoring five goals in the first 12 minutes. Dillon Sheridan bagged a nine-minute hat-trick whilst Gary Messett bagged a brace. Further goals from Darragh Snell, Luke Evans and a fourth from Sheridan meant Ireland ran out 8-0 winners.
In the quarter finals, the Republic of Ireland will face European champions Ukraine who edged the Group A decider against hosts England in front of a bumper crowd.
The opening quarter saw both sides enjoy chances with England trying to hit their opponents on the counter attack.
Ukraine scored the only game of the game in the 17th minute. A break down the right side of the field saw captain Volodymyr Antoniuk slot home a pinpoint Oleh Len cross from close range. It was Antoniuk’s ninth goal of the tournament so far.
For the remainder of the first half Ukraine enjoyed long spells of possession and also enjoyed the better of the chances in the second half. Despite five minutes of added time, England could not find an equaliser going down 1-0. They will now meet world champions Russia in the next round on Wednesday.
The final games in Groups C and D will be contested on Sunday (21 June).
