In 2015, Jacobsson left many wondering if he would compete at Rio 2016.

Sweden’s world champion Jonas Jacobsson will get his 10th Paralympic Games underway in the R1 (men’s 10m air rifle standing SH1).

Having competed at every Games since 1980, the Swede is one of the most respected and well-known shooters in the world and the silver medallist in this event from London 2012.

He has 30 medals spread across every edition since 1980.

In 2015, Jacobsson left many wondering if he would compete at Rio 2016. But the lure of a Paralympic Games, and providing support to the up-and-coming shooters he helps to train, proved too much of a temptation for the 51-year-old.

The United Arab Emirates’ Abdullah Sultan Alaryani and South Korea’s Jinho Park hold the R1 finals and qualification world records respectively.

Alaryani has finished on the podium twice at IPC Shooting World Cups in 2016, including one win.

Park and Alaryani’s most recent meeting in at the World Cup in Sydney, Australia, in September 2015 resulted in a gold medal for the South Korean whilst Alaryani left with silver.
