Rio 2016 preview: Men’s up to 65kg21.08.2016
After a strong Paralympic debut, China’s Peng Hu is the one to out-lift at Rio 2016.
Taking bronze in his Paralympic debut four years ago, China’s Peng Hu will be targeting gold this time at Rio 2016.
The 27-year-old dropped down from the men’s up to 75kg (where he took the Paralympic bronze) to the lighter weight class. Last February, he lifted 201kg at the World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, enough to guarantee an early spot at Rio.
But Shabaan Ibrahim will keep Hu in check. The Egyptian will make his fifth Paralympic Games appearance, and he has taken home a medal each previous time. However, Ibrahim’s lone Paralympic gold came from Athens 2004, thus a golden moment is overdue.
His best lift this year was 194kg from the World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. But that was matched by Algeria’s Hocine Bettir during the same competition.
